Dickinson Real Estate!
John Dickinson was granted a tract of land, just north of present day Dickinson, in the Northwest corner of Galveston County in 1824.  By 1850 a settlement named Dickinson was established along Dickinson Bayou and by 1860 Dickinson became a stop on the Galveston, Houston and Henderson railroad.  In 1890 the town had a post office registered under the name Dickinson.

In the 1890's Fred M. Nichols and eight other businessmen organized the Dickinson Land and Improvement Association.  They started marketing Dickinson's unoccupied land, letting people know about it's rich soil.  It was great for growing fruit, cane, berries and potatoes.  Nichols even converted 40 acres of his own estate to create a public park.  For decades people came in from Galveston to enjoy the park for picnics and holidays.  In 1911 the Galveston and Houston Electric Railway Company had 3 stops in Dickinson, which brought in prominent Galvestonians.  They began building homes there and established the Oleander Country Club.

Gambling became prominent in Dickinson.  It stayed active until 1957 when Attorney General Wil Wilson and the Texas Rangers shut down open gambling in Galveston County.

In the early 1900's Italian immigrants settled in Dickinson.  They resettled after a series of floods forced them to relocate from Bryan.  In 1905 the Italian Ambassador was in search of places suitable for Italian immigrants.  When he stopped in Dickinson he was greeted by an estimated 150 Italians at the train station.  After this warm greeting he was convinced that Dickinson was a great place to direct immigrants.

Dickinson's growth and economy are driven by the industry in Texas City and the Space Center in Clear Lake City.  Nestled between these two cities Dickinson still has the small city feel with the big city attractions close by.
