It was a beautiful day. Cloudy with a chance of rain, and cool. Cool with a nice breeze. Perfect to walk or run in Houston's Susan G Komen Race for the Cure.
This year was my (Ann's) year. My sister was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in March of 2009. She was diagnosed even though she had a "clear" mamogram in November 2008. Her cancer happened to fall into the 10% that does not get caught by a mamogram. Her advice to all women, do self exams and "know thy breasts". Had she not caught it, I may have lost my sister. Thank God she did. She still has a long battle ahead, but she is on the road to recovery. Here she is on her last day of chemo!
I am getting ready to walk the 5K (3 miles).
This year I walked in honor of my sister, Catherine Arnold. This year was personal.
There were so many people, over 32,000!! It is truly an amazing experience.
I saw lots....
and lots of people.....
Lots of pink.....
...and lots of volunteers.
These ladies called out team names and motos as you went started the race.
This was one of my favorites!
There were people on the sidelines cheering us on.....
.... and entertaining us.
There were bands....
... and families along the route showing their support.
Plenty of police presence....
...medical presence....
.... and general support.
The number of people there was inspiring.
As the survivors walked through the finish line, their names were called out.
These women are inspirational. It is a powerful experience.
At the finish line you will find bottles of water, bananas and apples being passed out.
This shirt says it all..... This walk is for you and you and you!
